The December Lion’s Club Students of the Month at Spearman High School are seniors, Kamryn Teeters and Sam Turner.
Kamryn is the daughter of James and Staci Umsted. She has one older sister and brother-in-law, Jayli and Corbin Hughes, and one younger sister, Brooklyn Teeters. She has been active in FFA, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Texas Panhandle, National Honor Society, Track, and UIL number sense and calculator. Kamryn has been listed on the All A Honor Roll throughout high school and has been named the Top Student of the Year in Livestock Production, Ag Management and Marketing, and Spanish 2. She was named Academic All-District in track for the past two years. Kamryn has also received her Lonestar FFA degree. Last year, she obtained the Texas Cattle Feeders Association Safety Tech Industry Based Certification. In her spare time, Kamryn enjoys showing pigs, participating in FFA contests, fishing, and playing basketball. Her future plans include attending Texas Tech University to earn a degree in Animal Science. She also plans on minoring in biochemistry and eventually plans on going to medical school. Kamryn states the best thing about Spearman is, “The community is very supportive no matter what.” The best thing about Spearman High School is, “The teachers care about you outside of school too, not just in the classroom.” Kamryn’s most influential teacher during her school years is Mr. Mike Rountree.
Sam is the son of Brad and Christa Turner. He has one younger brother, Mason Turner. Sam is active in Student Council, National Honor Society, UIL Academics – Current Events and Mathematics, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Texas Panhandle, Golf, and Band. Sam has also served as a Student Athletic Trainer for the past four years. He served as the Spearman High School Drum Major, saxophone section leader, and is the current head student trainer. Sam has been listed on the All A Honor Roll throughout high school, was named the Top Student of the Year in English 2 with Honors, Sports Medicine 1 and 2, received Academic All-District honors in football, basketball, and golf, was the District Champ and Regional Runner-Up on the UIL current events team, and qualified for state solo on the tenor sax. In his spare time, Sam enjoys music, cooking, and spending time with friends and family. After graduation, Sam plans on attending Texas Tech University and majoring in kinesiology. He then would like to earn his Master’s Degree in athletic training and become a certified athletic trainer. Sam states the best thing about Spearman is, “It is a very supportive community and the town will always be behind the school.” Sam says the best thing about Spearman High School is, “It is small enough for everyone to know everyone, but large enough for diversity and many interest and career opportunities.” Sam’s most influential teacher during his school years is Dr. Mike Ralston.
