Students of the Month at Spearman High School

The February Lion’s Club Students of the Month at Spearman High School are seniors, Scarlett Shields and Eduardo Linares.

Scarlett is the daughter of Tobe and J.J. Shields.  Scarlett has one younger sister, Avonlea Shields. Scarlett has been active in Student Council, National Honor Society, 4-H, where she is currently serving as the Morse 4-H President, and Art Club, where she is currently serving as the President. While in high school, Scarlett has received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen’s Award, has been listed on the All A Honor Roll for all four years of high school, and has been a regional qualifier for the VASE art competition for the past three years.  In her spare time, Scarlett enjoys anything art related.  She also loves her job as a CNA at Hansford Manor, which occupies most of her time.  Her future plans include attending Frank Phillips College to get her LVN certificate, then transferring to West Texas A&M University to eventually get her Master’s degree in nursing to become a nurse practitioner.  Scarlett states the best thing about Spearman is, “It is a small town where most people are doing their best to succeed, while also helping those around them.” The best thing about Spearman High School is, “The teachers want their students to succeed and go on to great things and try their best to make that happen.”  Scarlett’s most influential teachers during her school years are Mrs. Katherine George, Dr. Michael Ralston, and Mr. Mike Rountree.

Eduardo is the son of Ramon Beltran and Griselle Carmona. He has one younger brother, Daniel Linares.  Eduardo has been active in Spearman Lynx marching band, basketball, Art Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, UIL Academics, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Texas Panhandle.  He is currently serving as the section leader for the tubas.  Eduardo has been listed on the Honor Roll throughout high school and was named the Big Brothers Big Sisters October Volunteer of the Month.  In his spare time, Eduardo likes to play the guitar and he loves math and art.  Eduardo plans on attending West Texas A&M University where he plans on majoring in Civil Engineering.  Eduardo states the best thing about Spearman is, “The whole town is one family.  Supporting each other in school activities and people travel far distances to support students in sports and other school activities.”  Eduardo says the best thing about Spearman High School is, “Teachers develop relationships with students and become friends rather than just being the person that teaches a certain subject.”  Eduardo’s most influential teachers during his school years are Mrs. Krista Baird, Coach Craig Black, Dr. Michael Ralston and Mr. Mike Rountree.

Congratulations to Scarlett and Eduardo on being named the Spearman High School February Lion’s Club Students of the Month.
