The January Students of the Month at Spearman High School are seniors, Emmy Riggins and Mason Turner.

 

Emmy is the daughter of Chad and Mendy Riggins.  She has two older brothers, Caden and Jackson Riggins. She has been active in Spearman Lynxette varsity basketball, track, tennis, and cross country, National Honor Society, and FFA. She currently serves as the FFA Vice-President, National Honor Society Historian, and Captain for the Lynxette basketball team.  Her honors and awards include being named Academic All-District in cross country, basketball, track, and tennis, FFA Area Qualifier, State FFA Qualifier, and Area Basketball Champions in 2024. She hasalso been listed on the All A Honor Roll throughout high school. In her spare time, Emmy enjoys stock shows, hanging out with family and friends, and being a youth member at Cornerstone Methodist Church. Emmy’s plans after high school include attending Texas Tech Universitywhere she will be majoring in Ag Business.   Emmy’s advice to underclassmen is, “Underclassmen:  Nothing is set in stone.  Live how you want to live. Her senior year in three words, “nostalgic, bittersweet, and exciting.” When asked what she likes most about Spearman Emmy states, “Spearman is one of those places it is hard to leave.  Everyone here is truly just one big family.  Spearman is a great place to live.
Emmy’s most influential teachers during her school years are Mrs. Karina Baca and Mrs. Jodie Hight.

 

Mason is the son of Brad and Christa Turner.  He has oneolder brother, Sam Turner. While in high school, Masonhas been active in Spearman Lynx football and golf, Student Council, National Honor Society, Spirit Wind Youth Choir, and Cornerstone Methodist Church Youth Group.  He has been named Academic All-District in football and golf, Academic All-State 2nd Team in football, 3A State Champions for the National Football Federation Academic Excellence, and was named the 2024 Football Homecoming King. Mason has also been listed on the All A Honor Roll throughout high school, was named the Top Student of the Year in Honors Geometry, and qualified for the State ensemble contest as a freshman. He currently serves as the Student Council Treasurer and the National Honor Society Vice-President. In his spare time, Masonenjoys spending time with friends and family, music, and movies.  After graduation, Mason plans on attending Texas Tech University to study mechanical engineering. He then plans on earning his Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering. Mason’s most memorable high school moments are advancing to state in ensemble band as a freshman and being awarded football homecoming king. His advice to underclassmen is, “Don’t procrastinate – pay attention to due dates!” His senior year in three words, “exciting, stressful, memorable.”  Mason’s most influential teacher during his school years is Mrs. Chelsey Carbajal.
