Spearman XC will be competing in the District 1-3A Championships on Wednesday, October 12th at Palo Duro Lake Park. Races begin at 2:00 pm.
Palo Duro Lake XC Invitational 2022
Spearman Cross Country hosted their annual invitational on Tuesday, October 4th at Palo Duro Lake Park.
It was a beautiful afternoon for the 32 different schools to bring over 600 athletes for competition.
The JV girls’ were the first to race. West Texas High’s Avery Strong won the race in a 14:21 leading her Lady Commanches to the JV Girls’ team title. McLean JV girls’ finished in 2nd with Dalhart rounding out the top 3 teams. The JV Boys’race was won by Jesus Marquez of Perryton. He ran the 3 mile course in 19:28 and led his team for the JV Boys’ title with Borger and Goodwell placing 2nd and 3rd. Spearman Freshman, Jonathan Hernandez, finished as the 7th individual medalist.
The Varsity girls’ race was won by Spearman’s own, Junior Braylen Lusby. She was joined by Destinee Perez medaling 3rd with Jarely Munoz, Piper Pipkin and Vanelli Delgado rounding out Spearman’s top 5 scoring runners. Other Spearman varsity girls were Emma Kelsey, Tessa Holton, Aubrey Beck, Gissele Flores, Rachel White and Landrie Black. Spearman Varsity girls finished 2nd as a team, only three points behind Champion, Dalhart in the large 15 team field. The Varsity boys’ race was won by Livan Rosas of Boise City, Oklahoma with a 17:01 on the 3 mile course. The team championship was won by Perryton with Canadian (2nd) and Dalhart (3rd) in the 10 team race.
The JH boys and girls were the last to compete but were the largest races of the day. Lauren Martin of Dalhart won the individual title (13:35.) Gruver JH girls won the overall team championship with Panhandle (2nd) and Stratford (3rd.) Spearman JH girls finished 8th as a team with Paty Munoz as the 19th medalist. Other Spearman JH girls racing were Aislyn Moncayo, Hannah Leach, Kaylei Gayton, Mia Dominguez, Karime Gonzalez, Karina Gonzalez, Chanel Servantez, Brooklynn Flores, Jayden Perez, Yajaira Hernandez, Yahaira Aguilera and Valeria Enriquez. Allen Marquez of Perryton JH won the boys’ 2 mile race with a 12:16. The Perryton JH Boys won the team title over Canadian by 2 points. Spearman JH Boys’ finished 5th as a team. Jonathan Pipkin of Spearman finished as the 12th medalist followed by Cesar Hernandez, Fher Gonzalez, Isaias Avila and Austyn Dye.
Spearman Cross Country will resume their schedule on October 12th for the District 1-3A Championships. These races will be held again at Palo Duro Lake Park with Spearman hosting the meet. Competition begins at 2:00 pm that afternoon with the medal and trophy presentations at 5:00 pm.

If you have an animal in Spearman FFA, this meeting is for you and your parents. We will discuss animals, major shows, and many other expectations from your student and his/her project animal.

Angela Carmona is the Family Service Assistant for the Head Start Program . She and her husband have two daughters.
She previously worked for Gus Birdwell Elementary as a paraprofessional and then moved from Spearman. After returning to Spearman, she came back to work at Gus Birdwell Elementary.
“I love to talk and show my students as much as I can. My passion is the love I have for my kids,” shared Carmona.
Dancing is a favorite past time for Carmona.
Her goal is to go to college and study speech.
