Gus Birdwell Elementary Employee of the Month
Dixie Smith teaches Response to Intervention (RtI) math and the Gifted and Talented (GT) program. Mrs. Beck shared, “Dixie is extremely organized, hardworking, and a very kind and thoughtful person.” Her organizational skills make everyone’s job easier. Our campus just completed the third round of progress monitoring tests, and this runs so smoothly because of Dixie's hard work. She works closely with the teachers to make sure she is supporting the student's needs in the regular classroom,” added Beck.
The GT program at the elementary campus has many great things going on at this time. “When Mrs. Smith took over the GT program, she asked what it should like look. I gave her some very loose guidelines and she took it from there. She has done an exceptional job coming up with fun, creative activities that our students enjoy,” stated Beck.
Smith loves her students and they love her. “The students who she works with love her and work hard for her. We are so lucky to have Dixie on our campus!” smiled Beck.

The Lion's Club Students of the Month were recognized at the Spearman Lion's Club and school board meetings. Congratulations, Estafany Tarango and Jesus Marquez!
The Class of 2023 Lynx to Learning Academy members were recognized by the school board members. Congratulations, on a successful year!
The school board members had the privilege of hearing members from the Adult ESL class speak about their learning. The Adult ESL class started five years ago and continues to serve adult students. Over 130 students have participated in the program over the past five years.
The school board members recognized the One Act Play cast and crew for their accomplishments at the district competition. A special thank you was given to Brandi Cogdill for her success as director.
Congratulations to Marilynn Ortiz and Hudson Swan for being selected as the 8th grade Students of the Month.

This is a reminder that EOC testing for 9th and 10th-grade students will begin tomorrow, 4/18/23. Please ensure that your child brings their device fully charged for the testing.
*ALL JUNIORS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE US HISTORY BOOT CAMP STARTING AT 8:15 AM.
2023 JUNIOR HIGH STAAR DATES
ATHLETIC PHYSICALS FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR WILL BE:
*Jr. High (incoming 7th and 8th grade)- April 20th, beginning 8th period in the Varsity Gym.
* High School (incoming 9th-12th grade)- April 21st, beginning 8th period in the High School Library.
Current 8th-grade students will get their physical at the high school, so they must attend the HS after school on the 21st.
This will be a FREE physical offered by the school. If you're unable to attend on the scheduled date, you'll need to arrange and pay for your own physical.
