Dustin Klafka is the Dean of Students at SHS serving many roles of the assistant principal. He is the head girls’ basketball coach and coordinator of the girls’ athletic program.
Klafka joined the administration team during the 2001-2022 school year. “I have been blessed by the opportunity to be part of the culture shift in the high school. It has brought me a lot of joy, and I have taken pride in playing just a small role in it,’ shared Klafka.
Klafka enjoys that he gets to meet so many awesome kids at the high school and develop relationships with students outside of athletics that he would not get to work with solely as a coach.
He does his best to read his favorite quotes each morning: “Do you have enough courage to make a difference?” People don’t buy what you do they buy WHY you do it. Know your WHY,” Simon Sinek, and “The meaning of earthly existing lies not as we have grown used to thinking, in prospering, but in the development of the soul,” Alexander Solzhenitsyn.
“I’m inspired by people that put their own desires and egos aside to make decisions based on what’s best for kids which in turn pours into and changes kid’s lives. I’m blessed to work with people who truly love kids,” added Klafka.
Some wisdom Klafka passes on is “There are a couple secrets to life in my opinion that most people never figure out. Both are very simple but go against what most people tend to believe. 1- The harder you work the more fun you have. 2- To have joy and happiness in life your priority must be to bring joy and happiness to others. Secret is Love. Love to work hard, Love others!”

Spearman High School students who have been in the Migrant Education Program (MEP) are attending a presentation at WTAMU on the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). They will tour the beautiful campus and learn about the opportunities at the university.

Craig Black is the principal at Spearman Junior High (SJH). He is serving his third year as SJH principal and was the assistant principal at SJH before moving into the principal position.
Black shared some wisdom,” Your integrity matters. You can be the smartest student in school, but the character traits that you possess will outweigh any of your academic skills to be successful.”
An interesting fact about Black is he played college football for Angelo State University. One may wonder if his overall athletic talent comes from his hidden talent of being right handed and left footed, which is very rare!
A great day for Black is when all students are engaged in learning at school. “Seeing smiles on the student's faces as they walk the halls and seeing students helping each other out in times of need make for a great day,” commented Black.
If you are planning on going to a Major Stock Show with Spearman FFA there is a Parent meeting on Tuesday October 18, 2022, @ 7 pm in the Spearman Ag Classroom.
If you have a lamb that is going to a Major Stock Show, you have to bring them to the Spearman Ag Farm for Validation on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at 4:15 pm.

Alexis Beck is the Gus Birdwell Elementary principal. She has served in the role of principal for five years and two years prior as the assistant principal.
“The best thing about being a principal is watching the students learn and grow. Many of my former students are now teachers on campus and many others have children on the campus. It is so rewarding to see them as parents,” commented Beck.
Her inspiration comes from the students and teachers to keep learning. “Education is not a field where you can say that you have arrived or that you know it all. It is so important to keep learning and striving to do better, so we can help our students be academically successful and to be contributing citizens,” Beck stated.
A fact about Beck you may not know is she can read really fast! Her favorite quote comes from J.K. Rowling, “I do believe something magical can happen when you read a good book.”

We are celebrating Fire Prevention Week at GBE today.
Stephania Hernandez teaches Spanish at Spearman High School. She is the newest member to the team. Stephania and her husband, Rene, have one son.
Hernandez is a Spearman High School graduate. She earned her bachelor’s degree from West Texas A&M University.
She was the Enrollment and Match Support Specialist for Big Brothers Big Sisters prior to working for SISD.
“My future plans include going back to school to further my education and get my masters,” shared Hernandez.
She enjoys spending time with family, shopping, baking and trying new coffee drinks.
