Spearman ISD's March Employee of the Month Jenny Hernandez is the PEIMS clerk for the Spearman Junior High. “Jenny is superb at her job. She always has a kind smile and has a great demeanor in our office. She knows how to calm an angry parent as well as keeping happy parents happy,” shared Craig Black, Spearman Junior High Principal. A smile is contagious and a guest will find themselves smiling after seeing Jenny in the office. “Jenny is very knowledgeable in her job. She is very organized at her desk and it makes a great impression when people come to the office. Jenny has great communication skills, and she has the “it” factor to get everything done…and keep her smile,” stated Black. Black continued, “I personally am very blessed to work with Jenny. Our campus is blessed to have Jenny be one of us. She definitely makes our school and our district better because of her work ethic, personality, and of course, her smile.” Congratulations on a well-deserved honor!

Spearman High School 2023 Teacher of the Year Teacher of the Year is a program designed to recognize teachers that go above and beyond, reach all students, and surpass the qualities of an effective teacher. Spearman ISD is very fortunate to have many amazing teachers on staff. Staff members from their perspective campus were given the opportunity to nominate one teacher that exemplified qualities of a highly effective teacher. The nominees will represent their campus, and one teacher will be named District Teacher of the Year. The District Teacher of the Year will compete for Region 16 Teacher of the Year, August 2023. Congratulations to Chelsea Vanderburg, Gus Birdwell Elementary Teacher of the Year, Maidie Reining, Spearman Junior High Teacher of the Year, and Shelby Reagan, Spearman High School Teacher of the Year. Spearman ISD is thankful for the job you do and the differences you make with every student you get the privilege of teaching. The District Teacher of the Year will be announced at a later date. Shelby Reagan teaches science at Spearman High School. She was named Employee of the Month, December 2022. “Mrs. Reagan goes above and beyond at school. She is always positive in any situation. She has taken the initiative to earn her master's degree, she jumps in to help without having to be asked, and she is making a difference in the lives of her students,” shared a coworker. “Shelby is the kind of teacher everyone would want to work alongside. Her positive outlook inspires others to be like her. She will step in to get the job done without being asked. It is easy for the students to enjoy being in her classroom. She makes learning fun and challenges them along the way,” stated another coworker. Her leadership skills come naturally. “Mrs. Reagan is a leader on the Spearman High School campus. She is always present, maintains a high level of professionalism, and collaborates with her peers. She provides her students with an engaging classroom environment, strives to create a lifelong love for learning, and still maintains high expectations for all of her students,” added James Layman, High School Principal. Congratulations on a job well done. SISD is proud of you!

When I'm in her room watching her teach her science lessons, she teaches it well, and her students are engaged and listening. Her slides as she is teaching are very organized. Her room displays lots of color and science posters. She shows respect towards her students and gets to know them. Maidie also sends out a weekly newsletter, and being a parent of an 8th grader, the newsletter is very helpful. Maidie is on the Teacher's Voice committee for the junior high, and she communicates well with other teachers. She's very kind and always has a smile on her face throughout the day. In summary, Maidie displays the qualities that make a teacher successful. Spearman ISD is thankful for the job you do and the differences you make with every student you get the privilege of teaching. The District Teacher of the Year will be announced at a later date. Chelsea Vanderburg teaches Pre-Kindergarten at Gus Birdwell Elementary. Chelsea has been awarded Teacher on the Rise and Employee of the Month for Spearman ISD. “Teaching is a work of heart.” I’ve heard this phrase many times over the years, and no one better exemplifies this than Chelsea Vanderburg. Capturing Kids’ Hearts has been such a huge focus at our school district this year. This program is focused on the social-emotional well-being of our students, having a relationship-driven culture on campus, and student connectedness. When you walk into Mrs. Vanderburg’s classroom, you can feel the love and respect the students have for her, and vice versa. A Pre-K teacher plays such a critical role, because it truly sets the stage for all of these students’ feelings towards loving school or not. Mrs. Vanderburg cares deeply for each of her students and will leave no stone unturned for each of their well-beings. In turn, her students care deeply for her and grow so much academically, because they soak up everything she teaches with such eagerness! Mrs. Vanderburg is not only teaching our Pre-K students academically, but as young human beings she is teaching them to fly on their own for the first time leaving the nest, and she gives them just the boost they need in starting their journeys! What a blessing she is to our students and campus,” stated a co-worker. Another coworker of Vanderburg’s stated, “Every class I get from her, year to year, is such a joy to have in PE.” “Chelsea quietly goes above and beyond in her classroom and never seeks recognition. She is the Pre-K team leader, and she is extremely organized,” stated Gus Birdwell Elementary Principal, Alexis Beck. Congratulations on making a difference in the lives of students. SISD is proud of you!
