Gus Birdwell Elementary will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Wednesday, January 25th. Students are invited to dress like they are 100 years old or may dress up by wearing something with 100 items attached.

The students in Intro to Culinary Arts were assigned an egg challenge. Each group was given 30 minutes to cook an omelet, scrambled egg, poached egg, and fried egg over easy. Challenge accepted and the eggs are cooked!

January Employee of the Month
Lance Swan teaches Agriculture Science at Spearman High School. During the Christmas break, there was a water leak at the Ag barn. Mr. Swan went into action as soon as the leak was discovered. He made the necessary phone calls to get the appropriate people and resources to fix the problem. Swan spent several days during the break managing the situation. “Mr. Swan went above and beyond the call of duty. I was out of town when the water leak occurred. Mr. Swan called to inform me of the incident. I offered to get the help needed, but Mr. Swan had it handled,” shared James Layman, Spearman High School Principal.
Swan is a positive role model to the students and staff. “He has a great attitude, and it shows in all he does,” stated Mrs. Ramon. “He is a natural mentor where staff members find it comfortable to ask him for advice,” added Mrs. Ramon.

SISD Employee of the Month
Kara Harrell and Norma Hinojos teach Reading Recovery at Gus Birdwell Elementary. “They have spent countless hours this school year providing professional development on reading practices, running records, and guided reading to the kindergarten through second grade staff. They have planned and presented sessions as well as modeled lessons, observed lessons, and given feedback to teachers,” shared Alexis Beck, Gus Birdwell Elementary Principal.
Both teachers are veteran teachers that are committed to their students. Beck added, “They take great pride in their jobs, love their students, and are great supports to the campus. They continually strive to improve their craft and are amazing teachers.”
