Admission to tonight's basketball games versus River Road is free. However, we will be taking donations for the family of Jason Scot Wright, Principal at Dalhart High School, who tragically passed away on Wednesday.

Shelby Regan teaches science at Spearman High School. Reagan has been with the district for the last two years, although she worked for Spearman for five years prior to her transition to Ralls ISD. “While being a full-time teacher and coaches’ wife is enough to keep Mrs. Reagan busy, she has gone above and beyond the call of duty for a high school teacher through her volunteering to sponsor the yearbook, serving as the social studies department chair, attending numerous extracurricular activities to not only support the students, but to also capture memories for students and parents to reflect on for years,” stated James Layman, Spearman High School principal. Layman continued,” One of the things that I appreciate most about Mrs. Reagan is her willingness to do whatever it takes to see kids succeed. I chose her as a member of my instructional leadership team because that is exactly what she is, a leader.”
When asked about Mrs. Reagan, Mrs. Baird stated, “Shelby Reagan is a true joy. Since she first began teaching at Spearman High School, her level of dedication has been incredible. She takes teaching seriously and cares about her students. She challenged herself and completed her master's degree in biology, which has been invaluable with our dual credit classes. Shelby jumps in to help without being asked, comes to school with a positive attitude each day, and has creative ideas for student and staff involvement. I am very proud of Shelby and all she does to go above and beyond.”

Lauren Meiwes is the high school consumer science teacher. She is one to always step up and find ways to make learning hands on and engaging for her students. She never had any sewing training, so this year she decided she wanted her students to learn the skill. “She took the sewing machines out of the closet and started learning. She searched You Tube and learned how to thread the machine, stitch, and she took off from there, stated James Layman, Spearman High School Principal.” Meiwes is quick to reach out to the community and find talented resources. The County Extension gave Meiwes a few names of people who knew the skill of sewing and a partnership with Marcia Halderman was formed. Together, they taught the students to sew and each student made Christmas stockings,” added Layman.
The all-staff Christmas party is an event that has been provided to the staff for the past three years. Decorating for the event can be quite an undertaking. “I started looking for someone who might be interested and it did not take long before I thought of Mrs. Meiwes,” commented Ramon. “Meiwes said, “Yes” and immediately went to work. She got the art and agriculture departments involved as well, and the Christmas party was as a beautiful as a high school prom,” added Ramon.
A portion of the school board appreciation meal was cooked by Mrs. Meiwes’ students. She searched the 2024 school board theme and went to work once again wanting to make the environment a place where everyone would feel appreciated. “She and her students started researching the history of Spearman and created a place where her students and guests learned new information and the food was delicious enough to talk about it a year from now,” smiled Layman.
The Above and Beyond award is given to someone that goes above and beyond the daily responsibilities. Mrs. Meiwes is someone who has done many tasks that have been beyond the daily responsibilities. Congratulations, on a job well done!

Our very own Destinee Perez will be signing her National Letter of Intent to run track and cross country at South Plains College this Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the high school library. All are welcome!
January is School Board Appreciation Month. The consumer science classes prepared a meal and served to the members. This year's theme is Locally Elected, Community Connected. The students researched Hansford County history and created a timeline of historical events, and decorated with pictures from the past. Thank you, Mrs. Meiwes and students for a beautiful evening to celebrate the hard work of the members.

On Saturday three Spearman High School Students went to Plainview and competed in the Western Equipment Ag Invitational. This competition is only open to current high school Juniors and Seniors who are all competing for scholarships and prizes against 200 other students from a 4-state radius of Texas!
Spearman has competed in this Western Equipment Invitational for the last three years and has come home with some prizes and scholarships.
Saturday was not any different. Miles Mathews, Senior at Spearman High School, placed 2nd in the Electrical Component portion of the Invitational.
In the overall Invitational, Miles Mathews placed 8th Individual overall.
So proud of these guys for going and getting out of their comfort zone and competing!!
