In the year 2010, the United States dedicated May 18th as National Speech Language Pathologist Day. Macy Beedy has been a speech-language pathologist for fourteen years. She has worked her entire career in the school setting.
Beedy wears many hats and juggles her responsibilities well. “My primary job as the school speech-language pathologist is to serve students with a speech impairment, or suspected speech impairment. That includes stuttering, articulation, language or voice impairment, that adversely affects a child’s educational performance. Most people picture me helping students who can’t say a certain sound, such as the “R” sound. Although that is a part of my job, it is only a part of my job. I wear lots of hats and get to work with a variety of students," shared Beedy.
She added,” I perform evaluations, develop treatment plans, and then provide intervention/therapy. Intervention services may be provided to students individually, in small groups, or in the general education classroom. The type of intervention students receive is based on their needs.”
“One of my favorite parts of my job is providing support and tips to parents, so they can work on carrying over the skills their child is working on at school and in speech therapy to home. Seeing parents, teachers, and everyone working for and with a student TOGETHER and the growth that has come from that for the sake of a child, has been a beautiful experience,” smiled Beedy.
Thank you for the many responsibilities you manage and do it all with professionalism, love, and enthusiasm. Congratulations on a job well done!

Teacher on the Rise is a student/parent nominated teacher recognition program sponsored by United Supermarkets, Mrs. Baird’s Bread, Tyler’s BBQ, and Horse Creek Boutique. Every month three winners are selected (one elementary, one middle school, and one high school) from across the Texas panhandle. All winning teachers receive a great prize package worth more than $300.00. The student who nominates a winning teacher receives a $50.00 gift card.
The students and staff came together today at campus level assemblies to learn that a teacher on their campus was selected as the Teacher on the Rise winner. Abby Pipkin, Spearman Junior High School teacher and Dr. Michael Ralston, Spearman High School teacher were surprised to learn they were receiving the award.
Avren Delozier nominated Dr. Michael Ralston
“The mark of a good educator goes above and beyond simply teaching students a subject. It involves connecting deeply, and truly with students and peers, fostering an accepting environment of learning, and that is exactly what Dr. Ralston has excelled in. Dr. Ralston has gone out of his way to support me and my peers all throughout high school with a reassuring smile and a hug. Dr. Ralston helped lead our theatre program, coordinate volunteer service at the Stationmaster’s Museum, support me in Persuasive Speaking UIL, and along my journey to submit essays towards college. I can confidently say Dr. Ralston has undoubtedly left his impact on me and my education. Dr. Ralston was also there for me at the end of the day to confide in, to talk to about my personal issues, and my lofty goals and ambitions, and helped me in achieving those dreams. Dr. Ralston also acted as an exemplary role model, with upstanding character and moral integrity for me to look up to. Dr. Ralston has excelled in every aspect of being a great educator, role model, and a friend. "

Elli Beauchamp nominated Abby Pipkin
“I believe that Mrs. Pipkin should definitely be chosen as Teacher of the Year! She is so awesome in many ways. For one, she is ALWAYS smiling in the halls. With the smile on her face while I walk through the halls, it brings up my spirit. I had Mrs. Pipkin as my English teacher last year, and it was the best year of my life! She explained every detail so well, and it made me understand so much better. Also, I had really good grades. I especially remember one of my best grades last year which was a 100 on a test! I would have never gotten that grade without her. Also, she brings me up when I’m down. She is the sweetest ever; I can’t even describe in words how much I love her. I do not have her this year, and I miss her so much. Continuing, I wouldn’t even be able to write this essay without her. She taught me so much about my writing skills, and I have now, in my opinion, become a better writer. She always had an activity planned out, and they were always fun and a new way to learn. I am so thankful I got the opportunity to be in her class! I really do believe that Mrs. Pipkin deserves this award. It would be the best choice y’all have ever made!”
