SISD New Staff Spotlight
Jocelyn Aguilar is a paraprofessional at Gus Birdwell Elementary (GBE).
Aguilar is a Gruver High School graduate and substitute taught for Gruver Elementary.
Her plans include going back to college where she will earn a degree and follow the dream of being an elementary teacher.
She enjoys reading, listening to music, spending time with her daughter, and watching movies.
Welcome to the SISD team, Jocelyn Aguilar!

Sierra Bass is a paraprofessional at Gus Birdwell Elementary (GBE). She has one daughter.
Previously, Bass worked at Lowes Market, Spearman.
Bass is a Gruver High School graduate and has earned hours towards her college degree. Her plans include earning a degree in elementary education.
She enjoys crafting, being outdoors, and big animals.

SISD New Staff Spotlight
Courtney Bruner is married to Kolton, and their first child will be born this fall.
She is a Spearman High School graduate and has been employed for SISD as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional.
In November 2022, Bruner was named SISD Employee of the Month.
Continuing to teach in Spearman is in her plans. While she is not teaching, she enjoys reading, fishing, golfing, and spending time with her family.

SISD's Board of Education proudly recognized the SHS Senior September Students of the Month sponsored by Panhandle First Bank. Congratulations to Cy Davis and Genesis Chavira!


SISD will be recognizing departments at each school board meeting. This is an opportunity to share with the board members the many great things that the.staff are doing to make SISD a great place for students to learn.
The September Department Highlight is the custodial staff. This group of employees have gone above and beyond to get the schools ready for the start of the year. Congratulations on making each campus a place where staff and students want to work.

September 8-14 is National Art In Education week. National Art in Education celebrates the impact schools have on developing life long skills in students that help them to succeed in all they do.
D'Arcy Roberts' student work will be highlighted throughout the week.

SISD New Staff Spotlight
Melissa Layman teaches kindergarten at Gus Birdwell Elementary (GBE). She is married to James, and they have two sons and a soon to be daughter-in-law.
She is not new to GBE as she was the campus secretary before working at First Baptist Church, Spearman.
Layman graduated from Wayland Baptist University and was on the Dean’s List while studying there.
She has felt led by God to teach and will follow where HE leads her.
