Tasha Williams is the counselor for Gus Birdwell Elementary and Spearman Junior High. She is married to Taylor and they have one daughter. “We have two dogs, Isabella and Fuzz,” shared Williams. She also has two sisters and eleven nieces and nephews.
“My hobbies include outside work, working out, going to concerts, traveling, reading, playing sports, and growing succulents,” stated Williams.
If she could learn something new it would be a second language. She added,” I would love to learn several other languages. My dream would be to travel all over the world and communicate well with people from other countries.”

Krista Baird has been the guidance counselor at Spearman High School (SHS) for twenty-one years. Another big role she serves is the testing coordinator for the district.
She and her husband have two sons and one daughter-in-law. They raised their children in Spearman.
“My greatest job is seeing the success of my students-while they are in high school and after they graduate. Whether it is earning a scholarship, getting accepted into a program, completing a degree, joining the military, finding their dream job, or raising a family, each of these amazing SHS students are successful in their own way,” stated Baird. She also added, “It makes me very proud to be a part of Spearman High School and the Spearman community.

Rebecca Mathews is a License Professional Counselor (LPC). She grew up in West Texas and attended college at Lubbock Christian University. She and her husband, Ryan, have 4 children. They raised their children in Gruver and two of their children currently attend Gruver High School.
Mathews wears several hats. She has a private practice in Gruver and Perryton and serves on the board of the recently founded Pregnancy Support Center in Perryton.
“My favorite moments involve watching my boys play ball, making memories and spending time with family, and traveling to and experiencing wonderful and beautiful new places,” shared Mathews.
Mathews continued, “Some of the aspects of my work that I love are those moments when I realize I’ve had a breakthrough in building rapport with a reluctant client, and when a client experiences a “light bulb” moment, especially those that highlight how hard they’ve worked and the progress they’ve made.”

Congratulations to the SHS band members that competed at the UIL solo and ensemble contest today. Seven members qualified for state that will be held in May! Advancing students: Angel Mendoza, Eric Reyes, Ayden Peigne, Jordan Guzman, Bryan Herrera, and Ava Salgado in Ensemble and Jocelyn Hernandez in Solo.

Congratulations to our Jr. FFA, FFA and 4H swine showman this past week at the Fort Worth Livestock Show. Alayna Schneider 3rd place Hamp, Kinley Shieldknight 7th place Hamp and Certified TX Bred class winner, and Logan Shieldknight 4th place Cross.
There was a lot of laughter while the students in Mrs Meiwes' class played the game "How children view the world!"

Congratulations to the 2023 Spearman Lynx Football Team. The Texas High School Coaches Association just released the State Champions of the National Football Foundation Academic Excellence Award. For the second year in a row, the Spearman Lynx are the 3A State Champions!
There is so much talent within our staff at Spearman ISD. We would like to thank Mary, a Jr. High custodian, who came to talk to PK about what can be made from sheep’s wool once it is spun into yarn. She had blankets, caps, flowers, puppy hats, and coats. She even showed us how to crochet a flower. Thank you, Mary, for sharing your talent!
Good luck to our 7th and 8th grade Lynxettes. They will be participating in the District Basketball Tournament this Saturday, Feb. 3rd.

Mark your calendars for Future Awareness Day. We will celebrate the many opportunities students have for their future goals after graduation on Wednesday, February 7th.
Congratulations to Destinee Perez, Spearman High School senior. Today, she signed her national letter of intent to run cross country and track at South Plains College. We are so proud of Destinee and look forward to the great things she will accomplish at SPC!
