Today we recognize SISD's coaching staff for National Coaches Day. Coaches play an integral part in the lives of students. This day was established back in 1998 as an opportunity to honor and recognize the hard work, dedication and influence of coaches across all sports.
The coaching staff at SISD goes above and beyond to make sure every athlete/student is respected, cared for, and taught in a way that will give them skills to last a lifetime.
We appreciate you!

October is National Principal’s Month. This month-long celebration is a time to recognize and thank our hard-working principals on each campus of Spearman Independent School District. We are fortunate to have outstanding men and women lead the campuses.
Dustin Klafka is the Dean of Student Relations at Spearman High School. “Every day is a good day! It is always a choice. We have the blessing and responsibility to pour into kids’ lives and in turn positively affect their future and place in this world. I firmly believe what we do is a calling and an absolute blessing,” shared Klafka.
Klafka is proud of how well the start of the school year has gone. “It has been just a fantastic start to the year; very positive. The attitude and comradery of the staff and administrators this year is different, in a good way! I'm proud to be a small part of this district. I'm proud of who we are and how we love on kids. “
He is inspired by effort. “Maximum effort, team first mentality, and growth through accountability. These things seem to be fewer and further between these days. When the combination of these qualities is done consistently it becomes who we are. These people inspire me and push me to be the best version of myself. There are leaders and then there are those that truly lead. People don't care what you do, they care why you do it. We have a healthy number of people at Spearman ISD that are in this business for the right reasons: they are led by their why and, I'm better because of it,” added Klafka.
Congratulations, on a job well done and giving your maximum effort in all you do.

October is National Principal’s Month. This month-long celebration is a time to recognize and thank our hard-working principals on each campus of Spearman Independent School District. We are fortunate to have outstanding men and women lead the campuses.
James Layman is the principal at Spearman High School. He explains what makes a good day for him at SHS, “I believe a good day at school is when our students are engaged and learning in each class, the teachers are engaged in meeting the needs of their students, and we as a school are engaged in meeting the mission/objective of the school district.”
You will find Layman doing what it takes to shine his school spirit but he also shows it other ways. “I dress up on theme days, have kissed a pig, and yelled at the top of my lungs during sporting events, but to me school spirit goes beyond all of these. I try to show school spirit by representing my students, staff, and this community every day and every place that I go. I want people that I meet to understand how great this community and school district is and that is how I show school spirit.
Something you may not know about Layman is he loves to sing. “I am not always on key, or even remember all of the words to the songs I sing, but I am definitely not scared to start singing in the hallways. I suppose the students would tell you this isn't a hidden talent because I do it all the time in front of them.”
“I think one of the things that might surprise my students is that I use to be really shy in high school. I am not sure when I got over my shyness, but you can definitely say that this isn't an issue today!” laughed Layman.
Layman reflected on a childhood memory with his kindergarten teacher. “My first memory from school is from kindergarten. I can remember being in Mrs. Stewart's class and her reading to us before we laid down to take a nap on our mats. Truth be told, I wish we had naptime in high school!”
Congratulations on being an inspiration to your family, students, staff, and community. You are making a difference.

Join us for the snake dance and lighting of the SHS sign tomorrow at Spearman High School tomorrow, 10/3/23.
