Week of 4-29-24

We would like to congratulate our SJH Cheerleaders 24-25

We would like to congratulate our Spearman Junior High April Students of the Month:
6th grade: Karime Munoz & Kendrick Quezada
7th grade: Sara Avila & Axel Herrera
8th grade: Allison Martinez & Braeden Maestas
These students have exemplified what we strive to be as students at Spearman Junior High. Each month teachers will choose one male and one female from each class to represent SJH. 216 Main is celebrating our students with a drink.

Coach Dustin Klafka was recognized by Superintendent, Dan Gist, at the school board meeting for receiving the Texas Association Basketball Coaches (TABC) Dean Weese 3A Coach of the Year Award.
Klafka’s team had a 26-6 record. The Lynxettes won the district, bi-district, and area championships. The last girls’ district championship was eleven years ago and last playoff win was ten years ago.
Coach Weese had a connection to Spearman and Klafka's family. While he was at SISD, Weese earned three state championship titles in 1966, 1971, and 1972. If you visit the Spearman High School campus, you will see the 1966 state championship monument that is located outside of the high school office. Kalfka’s wife, Melissa, played for Weese at Levelland High School. Weese won seven state championships while in Levelland. Melissa was on the 1997 state championship team winning the state tournament MVP.
Coach Klafka will be honored on the Wall of Fame wall at Spearman ISD’s administration office. Congratulations, Coach Klafka! We are proud of you.

Spearman ISD's Above and Beyond Award
Sally Swan is the district’s Registered Nurse (RN). She has many roles and responsibilities across the district. “In December we had a change in staffing with the Certified Nursing Program (CNA). I reached out to Sally and started the conversation that we had a need at the high school. Before I finished, Sally said, “What can I do to help?” I presented the idea of her coming to the high school and teaching a class,” stated Spearman High School Principal, James Layman.
The transition has been smooth. The background knowledge that Sally brings to the classroom is doing the health science department good!” added James Layman.
Congratulations on going above and beyond and making a difference in the lives of students.

Spearman ISD's Above and Beyond Award
Brace Scroggs is the Director of Transportation. “Brace has modernized our transportation by adding a system that helps to manage every detail of the vehicles. He has worked diligently on preventative maintenance with our fleet,” shared Superintendent, Dan Gist.
“The vehicles are clean, fueled, and ready to go when an employee takes one out. What sets Brace apart is his customer service. He will go above and beyond by bringing a vehicle to the campus, so it is ready for the employee. The communication between the transportation department and staff is ongoing. The state requirements can be daunting, and Brace manages all of the required paperwork that has to be reported to the state,” added Dan Gist.
Congratulations on a well-deserved award!
