SISD New Staff Spotlight
Melissa Layman teaches kindergarten at Gus Birdwell Elementary (GBE). She is married to James, and they have two sons and a soon to be daughter-in-law.
She is not new to GBE as she was the campus secretary before working at First Baptist Church, Spearman.
Layman graduated from Wayland Baptist University and was on the Dean’s List while studying there.
She has felt led by God to teach and will follow where HE leads her.

September 8-14 is National Art In Education week. National Art in Education celebrates the impact schools have on developing life long skills in students that help them to succeed in all they do.
D'Arcy Roberts' student work will be highlighted throughout the week.

SISD New Staff Spotlight
Taleigh Smith teaches fifth grade reading at Gus Birdwell Elementary. She and her husband, Lance, have three children. Smith is not new to GBE as she was the campus secretary prior to teaching fifth grade. She and her husband were owners of Bows and Arrows on Main Street for several years.
Texas Tech University is where Smith earned her degree. Her goal is to continue to learn and grow in the education field.
Her favorite sports teams include the Spearman Lynx, Houston Astros, and Texas Tech Raiders. She also enjoys cheering on her own children in their sporting events.

Senior students in applied nutrition went to the elementary school and visited 2nd and 5th graders. They presented a basic nutrition lesson. They taught about the nutrition labels and the six essential nutrients.

It’s game day for our Jr. High Lynx! They will play at Bushland.
The 7th-grade game will begin at 4:00 PM and the 8th-grade game at 5:00 PM.

SISD New Staff Spotlight
Leigh Ann Eagle teaches 8th grade science at Spearman Junior High (SJH). She has four children and is blessed to be raising a granddaughter.
She has an associate’s degree from Frank Phillips University and earned her bachelor’s degree from Western Governor’s University.
Eagle previously worked for Perryton ISD as a paraprofessional. Her desire is to earn a master’s degree in the future.
Being a member of Kappa Delta PI-Teaching Excellence is something Eagle is proud of.

The Lynxette basketball team volunteered at Snack Pack 4 Kids. Way to show your community spirit!
Spearman ISD Adult ESL classes will begin Monday, September 23rd. Classes will be held at Gus Birdwell Elementary on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm.
Bring a spiral notebook and binder to class.

Spearman High School had a fun day with our first Future Awareness Day of the year. We appreciate our amazing faculty supporting, encouraging, and preparing our student body to be college, career, or military ready!
Picnic with Parents 2024
Gus Birdwell Elementary is excited to invite our parents to a picnic on the front lawn on Friday, September 13th, 2024. *Weather permitting*
Parents are invited to join their students during their regular lunch hour. Parents bring your own lunch and picnic blanket. Students will have a choice of a sack lunch from the cafeteria or a lunch from home.
