SHS was excited to have Texas Tech medical students, Kaylen Meers & Ramon Young visit seniors, Daniela Perez & Perla Salinas. The four are part of the Rural Student Health Sciences Mentorship Program, which is aimed at mentoring students interested in attending medical school.

Shane Whiteley has been in education for thirty years. He has worked at Spearman ISD for seventeen years. He was the junior high principal before moving into his current position as the assistant superintendent. His previous experience includes classroom teacher, coach, k-12 principal at Follett, and elementary principal at Booker.
“I have been blessed to work alongside some of the most amazing and dedicated educators while I have been here at Spearman (this is pretty special to me), but I would definitely say a career highlight was when Spearman Junior High was named a Blue-Ribbon School during my last year as principal,” shared Whiteley.
It takes someone with a sense of humor to be the leader of a junior high campus. “I remember the time Mr. Whiteley did a backflip into the bean bags at the pep rally. This was the first of several surgeries for him! He also dressed up as Gru one year and had his minions. I will always be proud to be one of his minions,” reminisced Kimberly Anderson.
Kristi Ramon added, “Mr. Whiteley understands what it takes to move a team towards a championship. When I became the elementary principal, I quickly learned who to lean on for advice. We grew as friends and coworkers over the many years that we worked together.”
Whiteley will be taking a new position as superintendent at Adrian ISD. Thank you for your years of service to SISD. You will be greatly missed. We wish you the best in your new position, and we know Adrian is in good hands with you as their leader!
The Hispanic Community Advisory Council continues to put students first. Thank you for your service to this committee.
Our elementary GT students have been studying historical markers in Hansford County. As part of their study they visited the Brandt Building-now the Old Hansford Pie Society. They listened to very informative history of the building by Joe T and Linda Venneman and Holly Gifford. They also got to enjoy some yummy Valentine cookies!
Spearman ISD celebrates our school counselors during National School Counseling Week February 6-10, 2023. SISD is proud of the work each school counselor does and appreciates their contributions to the success of the students. Join us in celebrating Tasha Williams and Krista Baird.
Tasha Williams is the Gus Birdwell Elementary and Spearman Junior High counselor. She has worked in education for seventeen years. She is serving her eighth year as a school counselor.
Being passionate about her job is one of the many reasons she was recently awarded Employee of the Month. “I love working to help support students and staff. The best part, personally, is seeing the progress and growth in my students,” shared Williams.
A career highlight was during her first year of counseling. “I worked with a student that had a heavy life struggle. The student refused to open up or talk to me for about six months. Once the student was ready, they were able to share the pain with me. We worked the rest of the school year on the journey to healing. It was a powerful year, and it taught me to be patient, keep trying, and always show love and compassion,” reflected Williams.
A good day at school for Williams is when the students are smiling and having a great day.
She is talented in the workplace but also has a hidden talent, “I can eat a whole pizza, maybe two, by myself!” laughed Williams.

Krista Baird has been the guidance counselor at Spearman High School (SHS) for twenty years. Another big role she serves is the testing coordinator for the district.
“My greatest job is seeing the success of my students-while they are in high school and after they graduate. Whether it is earning a scholarship, getting accepted into a program, completing a degree, joining the military, finding their dream job, or raising a family, each of these amazing SHS students are successful in their own way,” stated Baird. She also added, “It makes me very proud to be a part of Spearman High School and the Spearman community.
Baird was selected Employee of the Month, January 2021 and March, 2022.
Congratulations on the difference you make in the lives of students and staff.
