December Lion’s Club Students of the Month at Spearman High School The December Lion’s Club Students of the Month at Spearman High School are seniors, Valeria Ortiz and Jack Pipkin. Valeria is the daughter of Valentin and Ema Ortiz. She has two brothers, Angel and Kevin Ortiz. Valeria has been listed on the All A Honor Roll throughout high school and has been named the Top Student of the Year in Algebra 2, World History, and Health Science Theory. Valeria has also received her Floral Design Industry Based Certification. Valeria is currently a student within the Health Science endorsement and she will complete her Certified Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Technician Industry Based Certifications this year, as well. In her spare time, Valeria enjoys reading. Her future plans include attending college at either WTAMU or Amarillo College to become a labor and delivery nurse. Valeria’s advice to underclassmen is, “Stay on top of your assignments. If not, when you least expect it, you will have double the amount of assignments.” When asked to describe her senior year in three words she states, “Overwhelming, fast, and exciting.” The event she is most looking forward to this year is graduation because she is ready to graduate! Valeria’s most influential teacher during her school years is Mrs. Deidre Tice. Jack is the son of Cody and Abby Pipkin. He has one older sister, Mia Pipkin, who attends Oklahoma State University, one younger sister, Piper Pipkin, a 9th grader at SHS, and one younger brother, Jonathan Pipkin, a 7th grader at SJH. Jack is active in Spearman varsity football, basketball, tennis and track, Student Council, National Honor Society, FFA, UIL Number Sense and Spelling, and First Baptist Church youth group. While in high school, Jack has been listed on the All A Honor Roll, was named 2nd Team All-State Tight End, 1st Team All-District Linebacker, and he received the Spearman Lynx Defensive Player of the Year Award. This year he was selected as the 2022 Amarillo Globe News Preseason Super Team Tight End and the Press Pass Sports Panhandle top 40 players to watch. Jack was also named the 2022 District Basketball Offensive MVP and the Vega Basketball Tournament MVP. He is an area qualifier in both track and tennis. Jack was also named Academic All-District in football, basketball, track, and tennis and, most recently, Academic All-State 1st Team in football. Jack enjoys ping-pong, hanging out with friends, and reading. After graduation, Jack plans on attending either Oklahoma State University or Texas A&M University and majoring in electrical engineering. Jack’s advice to the underclassmen is, “Don’t make Mrs. Whitefield mad!” Jack states his most memorable moment at Spearman High School is probably “Coconut Tuesday’s” in Ms. Tull’s AP English class. When asked the best thing about Spearman Jack states, “I like how in Spearman everyone knows everyone, and you are constantly either being wished luck or congratulated.” Jack’s most influential teacher during his school years is Mr. Mike Rountree. Congratulations to Valeria and Jack on being named the December Lion’s Club Students of the Month at Spearman High School.
