Spearman ISD - Dedicated to Education...Committed to Excellence

Over the past six weeks, students in our Dual Credit Psychology 2301 course completed a major college-level research project analyzing contemporary issues through a psychological lens. From start to finish, they demonstrated persistence, critical thinking, and professionalism well beyond their years.

Each student selected and researched a real-world issue impacting today’s society, applying psychological theories and peer-reviewed research to topics ranging from: the effects of losing a parent during adolescence, identity development in athletes, social hierarchies, the psychological influence of father figures, to sleep duration, REM sleep, productivity and concentration. Students also examined conspiracy theories, political opinions, religious identity and persecution, "cancel" culture, and the mental health implications of celebrity culture.

Additional research focused on modern technology and mental health, including artificial intelligence and human behavior, screen time and youth mental health, online therapy compared to traditional methods, and the impact of social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat on adolescents and young adults.



After completing a full APA research paper, students presented their findings in a formal academic presentation and participated in a Q&A session—just as they would in a college classroom.



Throughout the process, students rose to the challenge of college-level expectations and delivered thoughtful, well-prepared presentations that impressed both classmates and guest audience members. Their work reflects not only strong academic skills, but confidence, maturity, and a growing understanding of how psychology helps explain the world around us.

We are incredibly proud of their hard work and look forward to seeing all they continue to accomplish next semester in Speech 1311.

Please take note of the 4-day school week structure for semester 2. The "off-day" changes from Mondays to Fridays except for a couple of weeks where a holiday falls on a Monday.
